Positivity for masculine trans men

Too often on this website, when it comes to acknowledge the fact that masculine trans men exist, it’s framed around an assumption that these men are only masculine because “it helps with their dysphoria to be overly masc” and not because you’re just a manly person; it also implies that feminine/androgynous trans men are the default of the community, and exceptions are only manly out of having no other choice. Basically lots of negative things are implicit in these posts so I’m here to say:

  • Being manly doesn’t make you “toxic”, abusive, or any worse in any way than someone who is feminine.
  • You don’t have to like makeup. In fact, you can hate makeup, nail polish, dresses, skirts, the color pink, flowery shampoo, whatever–and you don’t need any justification to other than that you just don’t like it.
  • Sports are awesome, so go ahead and enjoy them!
  • Working out doesn’t mean you “can’t accept yourself” or only care about passing, it means you have a cool, healthy hobby literally focused on self-improvement and not only is that commendable, but I want to go lift with you.
  • It’s not cringy to have a man cave, to go out for boy’s night, or to have hobbies like gaming.
  • Being less emotional doesn’t mean you’re inherently mean or a bad person.
  • Being masculine doesn’t mean you’re “enforcing gender roles” or that you’re somehow less progressive just for being yourself.
  • There’s nothing wrong with being a man’s man and you’re strong like lion for the shit you go through everywhere while still coming out on top. Get out there and grab life by the horns! 💪
