I guess I’m a nobody then since I like self-inserts, but I’m fine with that. It looks like you don’t like me or anything I do, so I don’t understand why you’re here, but okay. Thanks for your opinion anyways, I guess?
First off I’d like to apologize to Avistella for hijacking this post, but I’ve seen this happen to people before and I feel I need to put an actual stand for this.
To begin with their blatant lie of no one liking self-inserts, I’d like to point out that there is an entire community that is based around self-inserts and celebrating our love for our favourite characters and franchises. People like @fictoromanticism who have blogs dedicated to such a celebration of showing our love for our favourite characters are the hope that many of us need, to know we’re not alone in loving a fictional person the way we would love a real person.
Our emotions for these characters are not invalid simply because they’re from a fictional universe, our emotional connection to our favourite characters are just as rich and deep as our emotional connections to our friends and family, our spouses and ourselves. We’re just as much in love with them as we are our mates. The emotional value is as real as the love we share for the person/people we’ve chosen to spend our lives with.
Saying that people are cringy and annoying for loving a fictional character and applying a self-insert oc into that world to love and cherish someone we genuinely want to see happy, is no less damaging than telling a young aspiring artist that their oc is a mary sue, or even going on anon and telling a young child to kill themselves because you simply can’t agree with their viewpoint. The people you tell this shit to are real people, and you’re not only being rude but also being destructive. Because instead of encouraging people to improve and be a better person, you’re instead encouraging people to shut themselves out and become less involved. Being less involved with a community they’re a part of leaves people with a sense of loneliness and in some cases (Like my own) leaves people with social anxiety and depression.
Now as a more positive note to Avistella; I’d like to say that I celebrate seeing you be comfortable enough to share your love for characters like Hrid and Alphonse for Fire Emblem Heroes so openly, despite knowing that you could be receiving messages like this. Your style is unique to you, and it is clearly a style you are proud of. Something that many of us still struggle towards even today. It’s encouraging to someone like me to see someone like you being so open and happy with oc’s like Alice. So thank you for sharing your works, and keep being creative, but please don’t forget to take care of yourself. While the world of art is indeed a wonderful place it can sometimes become our catalyst if we’re not taking the time we need for ourselves.
With all of this said, please have a good day.
As someone who writes my own self insert, I support this. Also…it’s THEIR fantasy, not yours. If you dont like the self insert, move along. no need to insult someone who put a lot of heart and soul into their self insert’s story, art, universe just because it doesn’t tickle your fancy.
