• considering the time period (I’m going with early 1800′s), Ricardo is actually able to get away with a lot of the possessive behavior that would be red flags now; he’s the primary head of the household, his word is the law there, add that to being the head of the Vongola, no one would dare cross him 
• when he sees you and decides that you will be his, no one can or will stand in his way – at best, he might go through the pretenses of asking for your hand in marriage, of doing things “officially” – at worst, you’ll be kidnapped from your home (anyone trying to stop it mercilessly slaughtered) and locked away in one of his for the rest of your days
• either way it happens, once your his, that’s the end of your freedom – he doesn’t see the need to “show you off” at subsequent parties, no, that would put you in harm’s way, he’ll show up to those with his mistresses or prostitutes – it’s not like anyone else deserves to see you, you’re kept at whatever mansion he has you stuck in, surrounded by carefully vetted guards and maids, a place you’ll never see as home
• everything is carefully picked out for you – your wardrobes filled with clothes he’s ordered or has made for you, eating expensive meals he’s had specially prepared – you’re surrounded by his finery no matter where you turn; you won’t be allowed to even bring jewelry from your home, the only things you’re given are ones that he’s chosen for you
• he’ll have a garden made for you, massive and sprawling, an utter labyrinth with little gazebos and small koi ponds, a beautiful place that is what makes your cage “golden” to you – it’s elaborate and beautiful, just like the rest of the mansion – and just like the rest of the mansion, you can’t be free from Ricardo, even there; the garden was made in such a way that it’s entirety can be seen from the massive windows of Ricardo’s set of rooms (and that the hedges are never tall enough for you not to be able to see them as well…because the cage doesn’t work as well if you are not completely aware of it, in his opinion)
• he’ll never be violent with you, but he’s not above using violence to control you – people or animals that you’ve grown close to will be threatened in order to ensure your cooperation; he’ll use other forms of manipulation as well, his intuition telling him exactly how to maneuver to control you
